The Dakota House Food Pantry keeps the families of our neighborhood fed in those times when money and food are scarce. Please help us love the families God brings us by supplying our food pantry.

Biblical exploration
of God’s view of our city
and first-hand observation of 3 neighborhoods
struggling with poverty.
Bible study, walking/driving tour,
and lunch included.

Emily Musson was our summer intern. She helped out with events such as the camping trip, Outpost at Calvin Crest, the Food Pantry and Summer Lunch Club. The kids love her, and she loves the kids.

So Emily is staying on during the school year and will continue work at After School Club, Girls Only, special outings, and the Food Pantry.

Please pray for Emily as she reaches out in love to our Dakota House kids.

Miracles in the Mountains

Thank you to all of you who supported our camping trip in one way or another. Many people prayed, donated money or materials, loaned vehicles, or joined us on the trip to make this weekend one our kids will hold in their hearts always.

Jesus amazed us once again by His presence, and in the many ways He whispered into the hearts of our kids. He knows how to touch each of us in the most personal ways, and He did so over and over again on that trip.

Just a few of the wonders the kids experienced:
-they could do things they thought impossible
-trusting adults was a safe thing
-there was always plenty of food
-different races mixed and got along
-they were loved with kindness
-music can be uplifting and pure
-adults can have fun without drugs or alcohol
-God's creation is full of astounding beauty.

Remember that the majority of the kids on this trip had never been camping or even to the mountains. It was all new to them, and they were amazed by it all. The toughest kids from the neighborhood discover that off the street everything changes. What they perceive as reality fades away and the truth of who God is and what He wants for them begins to form in their minds. It is a wondrous thing to behold.

The theme of the week came from Romans 12, which tells us about the body of Christ, and reminds us that we are all excellently formed and marvelously created to be a part in that body. The kids were encouraged through stories and songs and listening prayer to discover their own gifts that God has given them. What they learn on the street about their worth is a lie. The truth is found in life with Jesus.

poem from Outpost

We have returned from Outpost at Calvin Crest. It was amazing. The staff loved and led us with wisdom and compassion. Our girls astounded me with their willingness, appreciation, and growth. More pictures and stories later.... for now I share with you a poem written by one of the girls. I can say nothing more powerful than this.

As I step off this grounds
of Outpost and camp
I'm amazed that I actually got
this chance.
To do things I've never done Before.
And get closer to God then I
Use to.
The food here is good, and the songs were too
as I stood.
I will never forget this week.
It will stay with me forever.
The fun part is when I got to do
this with the people that came together.
This trip taught me to let go of my
fears.
The rock climb I thought I couldn't do...
I did.
The swing that made me feel like I was
flying AND NOBODY COULD STOP ME!
So as I step off this ground,
I THANK everybody who was here, and
Everyone who was around.

Emily Musson has been loving kids at church and Dakota House since she was little herself. Now we are privileged to have her for the summer, working at Summer Lunch Club, Girls Only, and the Food Pantry.

Emily will be a senior at Bullard High next year, where she is on the yearbook staff,
and is planning to enter the nursing program—hopefully at Long Beach State—upon her graduation.

She is compassionate, a hard worker, and loves kids and Jesus.

She also happens to my daughter, and I am extremely proud of her.

Please pray for her as she steps into this ministry position.
